What Every Stat Does
Gear is just a delivery system for stats. Knowing what each stat does tells you which upgrades actually matter.

Primary stats
- Your primary stat (Strength, Agility, or Intellect) is your biggest source of power - almost always take more of it.
- Stamina increases your health; tanks value it highly and everyone else gets it automatically.
Secondary stats
- Critical Strike: a chance to deal or heal double. Spiky but strong.
- Haste: faster casts, attacks, and resource generation - it smooths your rotation.
- Mastery: a spec-specific bonus whose value swings the most between specs.
- Versatility: flat damage and healing plus damage reduction - the safe, defensive stat.
Why priorities differ
- Every spec scales differently, so there is no universal best stat - check your spec's guide.
- Some specs have breakpoints (a haste target that adds an extra tick or GCD).
- Item level usually wins: a much higher item-level piece with worse stats is normally still an upgrade.
Key takeaways
- Primary stat and item level usually outweigh secondary-stat quality.
- Crit, Haste, Mastery, and Versatility are ranked per spec - there is no universal order.
- Check your spec's stat priority instead of guessing.
