Build a practical Preservation Evoker setup

Use this guide for decisions in combat, then keep the chosen talents, keybinds, macros, and live gear evidence connected in the tools below.

Overview

Preservation is a 25-yard healer built around Echo, Temporal Anomaly, empowered heals, and planned burst recovery. In Midnight, the cleanest healing pattern is spreading Echo, consuming it with Merithra's Blessing or Reversion, then using Dream Breath, Spiritbloom, Rewind, Dream Flight, or Stasis for scripted damage.

Patch 12.0.7Updated Jul 16, 2026

Strengths

Weaknesses

  • 25-yard range constrains positioning
  • Echo and Temporal Anomaly planning add real ramp complexity
  • Mana and Essence waste are punishing during progression
  • Raid value drops sharply if the group is spread or you miss Dream Flight/Stasis angles

Stat Priority, Races & Consumables

Stat rankings, race notes, enchants, gems, and consumables in one place - the same character-prep flow players expect from modern class guides.

  1. 1.Intellect
  2. 2.Mastery
  3. 3.Haste
  4. 4.Critical Strike
  5. 5.Versatility

Intellect and item level matter first. Mastery is the strongest raw healing stat until diminishing returns; Haste makes Temporal Anomaly, Verdant Embrace, Reversion, HoTs, and GCDs feel smoother; Critical Strike gains raid value through Reversion and Chronowarden interactions. Versatility is mostly survivability and is usually the least efficient throughput secondary.

Races

Race choice

Racials are a small optimization. Pick utility racials for the content you play most, then prioritize gear, talents, and execution.

Haste

Speeds up casts, attacks, and resource generation, so your whole rotation flows faster and you fit more globals into every cooldown window.

Critical Strike

Chance to land a hit for roughly double value. Bursty and RNG-driven; strongest when the spec has effects that scale with or guarantee crits.

Mastery

A spec-specific multiplier - what it amplifies changes per spec, so hover it on your character sheet. Often your best or worst stat depending on build.

Versatility

A flat increase to all damage and healing done plus reduced damage taken. The safe, consistent, survivability-friendly stat.

Consumables

Flasks, food, potions, weapon oils, and runes for this build.

Secondary-stat enchants are not universal. They should move with your current gear, stat breakpoints, and the enemies you are facing in a raid boss, dungeon, 2v2, 3v3, or Blitz match. We will split these into boss-by-boss, dungeon-by-dungeon, and PvP bracket recommendations as the live gear model fills in.

Playstyle & Rotation

This is the practical priority list: how the spec plays moment to moment, when to spend, and where cooldowns belong.

Opener

5 steps
  1. 1Pre-position inside 25 yards of the group before damage starts
  2. 2Temporal Anomaly into the raid to spread Echo and shields
  3. 3Use Essence Burst on Emerald Blossom when talented into Twin Echoes
  4. 4Consume Echoes with Merithra's Blessing or Reversion for the planned ramp
  5. 5Dream Breath or Spiritbloom at the empower rank that matches the damage window

Major Cooldowns

5 steps
  • Rewind reverses recent raid damage - a huge AoE cooldown
  • Dream Flight is a positional raid cooldown; line up the flight path before pressing it
  • Stasis stores three spells for a later burst window and should be planned before pull timers or boss events
  • Tip the Scales gives an instant empower and is especially valuable in Chronowarden builds
  • Time Dilation is a true external. Use it before the hit, not after the target is already dying

Single-target priority

5 steps
  1. 1Keep Reversion on the tank and priority targets
  2. 2Use Echo before Verdant Embrace, Living Flame, Spiritbloom, or Merithra's Blessing when a duplicated heal matters
  3. 3Verdant Embrace is a strong spot heal and Chronowarden haste trigger, but it also moves you
  4. 4Use Time Dilation before a target takes a predictable hit
  5. 5Living Flame fills downtime; avoid burning mana into healthy players

AoE / multi-target priority

6 steps
  1. 1Temporal Anomaly on cooldown in raid to generate Echo coverage and shields
  2. 2Consume Echo with Merithra's Blessing or Reversion for planned raid healing
  3. 3Dream Breath before sustained damage; lower empower ranks are often better for the HoT profile
  4. 4Spiritbloom for immediate burst healing on stacked injured players
  5. 5Use Emerald Blossom to spend Essence and convert Essence Burst through Twin Echoes
  6. 6Dream Flight or Stasis before scripted stacked damage; Rewind after major damage has already landed

Talents

Pick your hero tree by the fight’s damage profile - single-target on pure bosses, multi-target on cleave and add fights.

Single-target: Chronowarden

Chronowarden is the recommended raid tree, offering stronger cooldown cadence, burst healing, and Temporal Anomaly value.

  • Chronowarden hero tree
  • Stat priority: Intellect > Mastery
  • Interrupt: Quell

Multi-target: Chronowarden

Chronowarden is also the recommended Mythic+ tree. Flameshaper is playable and smoother for Dream Breath/Fire Breath charges, but has less progression burst power.

  • Prioritize AoE and add-swap talents
  • Interrupt: Quell

Secondary-stat enchants are flexible. They change with your current gear and the enemy profile in a specific raid boss, dungeon, 2v2, 3v3, or Blitz match. As the live model fills in, this page will show enchants and gear by boss, dungeon, and PvP bracket.

Equipment

Tier set notes, target gear, trinkets, embellishments, and boss-specific gear links.

Treat secondary-stat enchants as matchup-aware recommendations, not permanent rules. Your current gear, raid boss damage profile, dungeon pulls, and arena or Blitz enemies can change whether Haste, Mastery, Critical Strike, Versatility, avoidance, leech, or movement is the right enchant for that slot.

Embellishments

Crafted effects are capped at two equipped embellishments. Lock these in only after deciding which crafted slots survive your next raid or Mythic+ upgrades.

Best in Slot by Boss

Gear and talents change per fight. For each boss we surface the current #1 parse as the best-in-slot reference - open any boss to copy that player’s full gear from Warcraft Logs. The recommended hero tree follows the fight’s damage profile.

Utility & Defensives

The Evoker toolkit, shared across every spec - a few entries are talent choices. Landing these on cue is what separates a good Preservation from a great one.

Dracthyr-only; most spells cap around 25 yards and empowered casts scale with hold time.

Interrupt: Quell - grab a focus-interrupt macro on the Preservation macros page.

Interface & Macros

Start with Midnight’s built-in boss warnings, cooldown manager, damage meter, and raid frames. Then add only the interface pieces that make your decisions clearer.

Better Blizzplates - cleaner, threat-colored nameplates with cast bars and cooldown text - the nameplate upgrade nearly every top player runs.
OmniCD - party and enemy defensive/utility cooldown tracking - the biggest information edge the base UI still does not show.
Mythic Dungeon Tools - build and follow pull-by-pull Mythic+ routes.
Details! (optional) - deep damage/healing breakdowns and Warcraft Logs uploads beyond Midnight's built-in meter.
Cell (or VuhDo) - fast, click-cast raid frames built for healing.
Method Raid Tools - cooldown assignments, boss notes, and pull timers.

Tips & Tricks

  • Treat 25 yards as a healing resource. Move before the damage event so your ramp actually reaches people.
  • Temporal Anomaly is not filler. In raid it is one of your main Echo and shield engines.
  • Do not max-rank every empower spell. Match Dream Breath and Spiritbloom rank to timing, target count, and whether you need immediate healing or HoT value.
  • Use Rewind after damage lands; use Dream Flight, Stasis, Dream Breath, and Time Dilation before or during predictable damage.
  • If you run Energy Loop, be flexible: Disintegrate during low healing to recover mana, Emerald Blossom during real damage.

Common Mistakes

  • Casting from outside 25 yards and missing half the group
  • Wasting Echoes on low-value heals
  • Using Rewind before enough damage has happened
  • Overcapping Essence or Essence Burst
  • Holding Stasis so long that it never answers a real mechanic

Game plan

Keep an answer for grip-based isolation and do not spend movement before the Death Knight commits their control chain.
