Overview

Holy is a reactive throughput healer built around Holy Word: Serenity, Holy Word: Sanctify, Prayer of Mending, and Benediction's upgraded Flash Heal. Oracle emphasizes Prayer of Mending; Archon leans into Halo and Prayer of Healing.

Patch 12.0.7Updated Jul 16, 2026

Strengths

  • Strong reactive and spot healing
  • Flexible toolkit
  • Good raid cooldowns (Divine Hymn, Salvation)

Weaknesses

  • Less proactive throughput than Discipline
  • Mana pressure on sustained AoE
  • Holy Word cooldown juggling

Stat Priority, Races & Consumables

Stat rankings, race notes, enchants, gems, and consumables in one place - the same character-prep flow players expect from modern class guides.

  1. 1.Item Level / Intellect
  2. 2.Raid: Critical Strike
  3. 3.Raid: Mastery
  4. 4.Mythic+: Haste
  5. 5.Mythic+: Versatility / Critical Strike

Raid starts Critical Strike > Mastery > Versatility > Haste. Mythic+ starts Haste > Versatility = Critical Strike > Mastery to support damage, survivability, and faster reactions. Mastery is excellent when its Echo of Light does not overheal, but its value falls in movement-heavy keys. Reassess close upgrades against your content and current gear.

Races

Race choice

Racials are a small optimization. Pick utility racials for the content you play most, then prioritize gear, talents, and execution.

Haste

Speeds up casts, attacks, and resource generation, so your whole rotation flows faster and you fit more globals into every cooldown window.

Critical Strike

Chance to land a hit for roughly double value. Bursty and RNG-driven; strongest when the spec has effects that scale with or guarantee crits.

Mastery

A spec-specific multiplier - what it amplifies changes per spec, so hover it on your character sheet. Often your best or worst stat depending on build.

Versatility

A flat increase to all damage and healing done plus reduced damage taken. The safe, consistent, survivability-friendly stat.

Consumables

Flasks, food, potions, weapon oils, and runes for this build.

Secondary-stat enchants are not universal. They should move with your current gear, stat breakpoints, and the enemies you are facing in a raid boss, dungeon, 2v2, 3v3, or Blitz match. We will split these into boss-by-boss, dungeon-by-dungeon, and PvP bracket recommendations as the live gear model fills in.

Playstyle & Rotation

This is the practical priority list: how the spec plays moment to moment, when to spend, and where cooldowns belong.

Opener

4 steps
  1. 1Cast Prayer of Mending before damage and never let it sit on two charges
  2. 2Spend Holy Words before they reach two charges, unless holding for an imminent event
  3. 3Use Benediction's upgraded Flash Heal promptly for its free Cosmic Ripple
  4. 4Oracle: favor Prayer of Mending; Archon: use Surge of Light on Prayer of Healing with Spiritwell

Major Cooldowns

3 steps
  • Divine Hymn and Holy Word: Salvation are scheduled raid cooldowns
  • Apotheosis supports a dense Holy Word healing window
  • Guardian Spirit is an external assignment; Symbol of Hope is a mana and cooldown tool

Single-target priority

4 steps
  1. 1Holy Word: Serenity for urgent single-target healing
  2. 2Prayer of Mending continuously, especially as Oracle
  3. 3Benediction or Surge of Light Flash Heal as the efficient direct-healing follow-up
  4. 4Flash Heal and Prayer of Healing reduce Holy Word cooldowns when more throughput is required

AoE / multi-target priority

4 steps
  1. 1Holy Word: Sanctify where the group can receive its value
  2. 2Oracle: Prayer of Mending and Benediction before expensive Prayer of Healing
  3. 3Archon: Prayer of Healing gains priority, especially with Spiritwell Surge of Light
  4. 4Use Halo as Archon and Lightburst Holy Nova when talented

Talents

Pick your hero tree by the fight’s damage profile - single-target on pure bosses, multi-target on cleave and add fights.

Single-target: Oracle

Oracle doubles down on Prayer of Mending bounces and passive throughput.

  • Oracle hero tree
  • Stat priority: Intellect > Haste

Multi-target: Archon

Archon adds Halo, Ultimate Serenity, Spiritwell, and Prayer of Healing-focused throughput.

  • Archon hero tree
  • Prioritize AoE and add-swap talents

Secondary-stat enchants are flexible. They change with your current gear and the enemy profile in a specific raid boss, dungeon, 2v2, 3v3, or Blitz match. As the live model fills in, this page will show enchants and gear by boss, dungeon, and PvP bracket.

Equipment

Tier set notes, target gear, trinkets, embellishments, and boss-specific gear links.

Treat secondary-stat enchants as matchup-aware recommendations, not permanent rules. Your current gear, raid boss damage profile, dungeon pulls, and arena or Blitz enemies can change whether Haste, Mastery, Critical Strike, Versatility, avoidance, leech, or movement is the right enchant for that slot.

Gearing notes

Use the BiS tables as a target list, then prefer item level and the secondary stats shown in this guide.

Raid Encounter Gear

Mythic+ Dungeon Gear

Enchants

Choose enhancements after your equipment is settled. Secondary-stat enchant choices move with your current stat mix and the content you are preparing for.

Gems

Socket into the current stat priority, then re-check after major equipment swaps rather than treating a gem choice as permanent.

Embellishments

Crafted effects are capped at two equipped embellishments. Lock these in only after deciding which crafted slots survive your next raid or Mythic+ upgrades.

Best in Slot by Boss

Gear and talents change per fight. For each boss we surface the current #1 parse as the best-in-slot reference - open any boss to copy that player’s full gear from Warcraft Logs. The recommended hero tree follows the fight’s damage profile.

Utility & Defensives

The Priest toolkit, shared across every spec - a few entries are talent choices. Landing these on cue is what separates a good Holy from a great one.

Mass Dispel and Power Infusion are premier raid utility every roster wants.

Interface & Macros

Start with Midnight’s built-in boss warnings, cooldown manager, damage meter, and raid frames. Then add only the interface pieces that make your decisions clearer.

Better Blizzplates - cleaner, threat-colored nameplates with cast bars and cooldown text - the nameplate upgrade nearly every top player runs.
OmniCD - party and enemy defensive/utility cooldown tracking - the biggest information edge the base UI still does not show.
Mythic Dungeon Tools - build and follow pull-by-pull Mythic+ routes.
Details! (optional) - deep damage/healing breakdowns and Warcraft Logs uploads beyond Midnight's built-in meter.
Cell (or VuhDo) - fast, click-cast raid frames built for healing.
Method Raid Tools - cooldown assignments, boss notes, and pull timers.

Tips & Tricks

  • Keep Prayer of Mending bouncing and never waste its second charge
  • Spend Benediction promptly so Cosmic Ripple and the tier-set Divine Image value are not delayed
  • Hold a capped Holy Word only for a known imminent event
  • Save Divine Hymn and Salvation for scripted spikes
  • Shadow Word: Death instantly frees a Polymorphed ally - any damage breaks the sheep, so a quick SW:D bails out a mis-sheeped or CC'd teammate

Common Mistakes

  • Sitting on Prayer of Mending or Holy Word charges
  • Ignoring the Oracle versus Archon Surge of Light priority
  • Saving big cooldowns too long
  • Ignoring Prayer of Mending uptime

FAQ

3 quick answers

Which hero tree should I start with?

Oracle is the natural first choice if you want Prayer of Mending-driven passive healing. Archon is a strong alternative for Halo, Ultimate Serenity, and Prayer of Healing-focused throughput.

Which race is best?

Dracthyr is a strong practical choice for mobility and crowd control. Goblin is a mobility alternative for Horde and Void Elf for Alliance; racial output differences are small.

When should I use Surge of Light?

Oracle normally spends it on Flash Heal. Archon with Spiritwell spends it on Prayer of Healing, where the proc is especially valuable.
